Our last run was a Pot Luck at Samford, so was the Hare. It started OK but excessive "knitting" at the front lead to a dead end - not to worry, Cuntry knew the way cos he claimed "I've done it loads of times" Well of course we know that but it had nothing to do with the right trail and I think at the end of the run we had run 3 different trails. No one cared as we posed for Hash Flash, enjoyed the circle and tucked into Pot Luck.

Lots of fun at the Shout Up which was followed by a traditional Christmas feast with all the trimmings. This included Just Joanna's traditional Columbian fare which had a shot of vodka in it - Yum Yum - Thanks Hares

Mekong Indo-China Hash + NEXT RUN DETAILS on 04th December + WORDS/PHOTOS

Samford Inc RA, Skidmark, Sherpa, Rumourmonger and Spice Girl were among around 260 hashers from some 30 countries who took part in the Mekong Indo-China Hash in Laos in October. As the most heavily bombed country on the planet, per capita (with about 80 million unexploded ordnance still lurking about the place), Laos might not sound like an ideal hash location. But we had a ball. Highlights included the traditional Red Dress run around the World Heritage listed town of Luang Prabang and a spectacular street procession marking the end of the Buddhist fasting period.

The hash pièce de résistance, for all the wrong reasons, was the so-called hangover or recovery run. This exhausting stumble in the jungle turned out to be even longer – and definitely more hazardous – than the 12km ball-breaker the previous day! So long, in fact, that some hashers missed flights that afternoon and the many Aussies amongst us missed the live telecast of the Australia-New Zealand Rugby World Cup game (not such a bad miss, given the result!)

All set for the Red Dress run from our curiously named hash HQ, Hotel Phousi (pronounced pussy we're told) L-R Slocum and Jackoff from Singapore Lion City HHH, Rumourmonger, Sherpa and Skidmark. Spice Girl is behind the camera

Run Report: 6/11/11 - Cuntry boy hits town

It was the turn of our Grandmaster, Cuntry Member, to lay trail on Sunday November 6, and he didn’t disappoint. In just a few months, he has morphed from a steady plodder into a very athletic FRB, blazing his way around Brisbane like a scalded cat.

We arrived at the run venue expecting to find Cuntry champing at the bit, as usual, but he was nowhere to be seen. Had he finally disappeared up his own backdraught, we wondered? It turned out he was still marking trail, so it was left to Whippet to lead us into the wilds of Nundah.

At times, we seemed to be going in circles, but it was actually a well-crafted run with plenty of twists and turns, eventually emerging smack bang in the ‘dead centre’ of town. Respectfully weaving our way through the historic headstones at Nundah Cemetery was an interesting experience. We had time to view the glowing epitaphs of yesteryear, in contrast to some more modern parting words that spring to mind (e.g. Spike Milligan’s “I told you I was sick” or that other graveyard “dig” at a not-so- dearly departed: “Under this sod, lies another”)

Gerbils was clearly moved by the experience. Back at the circle, she informed us that some 30 Japanese soldiers were buried in the park we were standing in. This turned out to be total BS (she’d misread a nearby memorial), and she was rightly given a down-down for telling us huge porkies! Down-downs were also given to the hare and to virgin runner, Joanne, from Colombia. Cuntry was then hauled back into the circle for confusing Colombia with Peru (don’t ever get him to book flights for you!)

Rumourmonger and Spice Girl presented Cuntry’s “member” with a tasteful souvenir from the recent Mekong Indo-China Hash in Laos. We can’t vouch for Lao product quality control, so hopefully we won’t be seeing strawberry-flavoured offspring trotting behind Cuntry in a few years’ time!

Last Run Report: Our Hare was Gerbils.

The RUNNERS get briefed in "CHALK" language - we quickly realised that "Chalking" its much easier than "Talking" and it makes you fitter as well.

We set off at a snails pace because the grass was long and hid the flour, but we soon reached harder ground and once we got Chalking the pace picked up. As always the Hare lead us on some new and interesting trails that took in most of the hills in the area, it felt like we visited them several times.
Stubby had a few sore bits to contend with and took it slowly (so whats new!) but the skills of the Hares checks keep the pack together the whole way. Its satisfying to see the FRB's get the checks wrong time after time.

Last Run: Thanks to Topless of Margate, who alone knows where the trail was actually meant to go. The pack soon got lost, but we had fun taking in the Top Spots such as Margate Beach and the Wildlife Paradise Park with all the newly hatched Sacred Ibis chicks.

The On On was preceded with an AGM for SH3 Inc. Thanks to those volunteers that stepped forward to serve you - we welcome in our new team. Cuntry member was elected as El Presidenti and Whippet as your new Treasurer, which explains why he is jet-setting already. Skiddy took over the duties of RA.

And so to the On On led by Cuntry Member - Snake Charmer introduced Nicky to the Hash and Phantomsdaughter brought along No Name.

Schnapps spotted Biggus Dickus in new shoes, and we all know what hash tradition is imposed on those who are foolhardy enough to test the will of the RA.

Sinners came in the form of Whippet and Sherpa, I can't remember what it was for except that it must have been well deserved.

Hash Nosh followed. Topless indeed went over the Top and provided more than what is expected, but it was gratefully consumed by all.

Rumormonger and Spice Girl are passionate creek dwellers and as it had rained most of the day the creek would be flowing. We knew to take a spare pair of shoes for the On On
We arrived to see that Gentleman Jim, a Virgin Hasher, had turned up on his motorbike, oh what a cold ride home!

It wasn't long before we were wading in the South Pine River but by now it was a Sunny Afternoon - remember the Kinks and "the taxman's taken all my doe" most of us were old enough.

Good trails and checks kept us all together as we wheezed our way up the hills and back to the House of Curry and the inspirations of Spice Girl.
The brassier was lit, this and Schnapp's Glueh wine was a a real hit. Skiddy and Whippet ensured the shout up was the usual lively affair.

The hills are alive with the sound of wheezing...
At least they were at Lomandra Picnic Area on July 3 as we set off on another of Stubby's deceptive "flat" runs that keep going up, up, up!
Assisted by his partner in climb, Schnapps, the trail twisted and turned through the undulating nether regions of Ferny Grove (an area notorious for after-dusk undulations, according to Stubby who knows about such things). A combination of crafty false trails, back checks and altitude sickness kept the pack together, and reined in our regular FRBs Cuntry Member and Grouse Sheila.
Back at the circle, the hares dished up a superb, chill-thawing spread. Skiddy raffled off everything except his beloved Red Dress tutu in support of Nash Hash activities. We welcomed back Bootee and Biggus Dickus and sadly farewelled Holy Smoke, a Samford Inc regular, who is moving to Noosa, and will be greatly missed - until we all roll up at her new pad for dinner!
Over-achiever down-downs were awarded to Whippet for whipping through the Gold Coast half-marathon in 1hr 22 mins that morning and to Rumourmonger for completing an extra loop on Stubby's hill-a-thon. Great run, fun and food - thanks hares!

Who told us the good news that Skiddy was 50 again!!!!!

There followed a very crafty Hash Trail with plenty of checks and backchecks to make maximum use of the bushland that surrounds the Granite Quarry towards Mt Coot-tha.

Almost the entire route was bushland and there were enough hills to force a few grunts out of most of us, however Rumourmonger insisted it was just a severe cough.

When we gathered for the Circle we were delighted to receive a Special T shirt to mark the occasion, it was evident that Art Attack had been involved and produced another of her award winning Hash designed T shirts:

The usual generosity of the Hares did not end there either, Skiddy and Sherpa whisked us away to The Gap Tavern for dinner and jugs of nectar to finish the On On. Lets hope he lives till 100!

Holy Smoke did us proud on the 1^st of May with a good work out for the running pack that connected up with the walkers at about 50 minutes with a leisurely return to base in just over the hour. A good size turnout of regulars and occasional with the addition of Blueberry from Thirsty as a Samford virgin.

Sunday 5^th June sees us in the Gap. Start point is the Rotary shelter on the corner of Waterworks Road and Glenquarie place. UBD Page 158 - G/2. Parking either at the Gap tavern, or Baileys Road giving rear access to the park. Parking is limited so leave space for the beer truck. For those that know the area Skidmark promises that he will neither be going up or down El Paso.

Our last run was everything you would expect from Grouse Sheila. A trail that was well marked and set with checks that had us all confused.

Mount Coot-tha lived up to expectations as well, as you can see from the photo it took a Sherpa to lead the way from our little picnic spot by the falls. Nobody got swept away, but Art Attack did take a tumble when she tried to hurdle Miles.

The On On attracted a couple of French Hashers who made various excuses as to why they were too late to do the run, but we all knew it was just a fear of hights.

Last Run Report - Photos below

Hashers gathered at Teralba Park on a windy afternoon, wondering if one of the many squally showers was going to hit us before the start, but the weather held off until after we were fed, thanks for arranging that hares!

Pre-briefed with latitude, longitude and elevation it was evident that we were going to visit Michelton’s highest point, which help us guess most of the many checks with some degree of success.

After the high points we decended to pass some streams with considerable flood damage, and did our best to reunite a dog owner with her 2 lost dogs.

The Circle was fun with lively, and frequent, interruptions from Bite & Suck. Boxy and Rini were welcomed back informing us that Shit Zu had fled to Japan. We have since learnt that she realizes that life is not so bad here after all and she is now back home safe and sound.

Gerbils and Whippet, thanks, we all enjoyed the run, sausage sizzle, chutney and more!!!

Words for Hash Run of 06th February 2011 - Well a few!

Rumourmonger & Spice Girl did us proud by filling in as Hares and we were all expecting a re run of their excellent Thirsty Run the Thursday before.

No no no, not at all, in the rain they set us a completely new trail, including some Virgin territory, and we all enjoyed and appreciated their efforts.

Here is a snap of some of the water rats as they cool off on a very humid day, not to mention the sweat from keeping up with the pace that Grouse Sheila set.

Kerry our new runner got sorted out with how many times you can be a Virgin at the shout up, and Pot Luck did the dinner. A fun evening, special thanks to the Hares.

Another Great Day For Hashing- Cuntry Members Run of 09th Jan 2011:
Eleven water-proof hashers turned up in Albany Creeks Water World next to the Sandy Creek. The wild weather warnings meant nothing to them (except for Gerbils !) and the only serious question was if any chalk or flour would be visible for directions on the run…..
Hare Cuntry Member had chosen the safer option of his shredder supplies

First we came across a false trail with no other way than to go back and to take the first dip into the floods. Followed by as many plunges as one can include into a 90 minute refreshing hash through some lake districts, water ways, Colorado River like creeks, lush green parklands and forest.

The well designed wet season route disappointed no one and the smell of beer and wine activated a well known sense of how to get back to home!

Non stop rain at the on on under the tin roof, the girls forecast was “It's raining men”. RA Whippet dished out some hash fines and the attention changed to Cuntry’s nibbles and hash nosh, which we all enjoyed.

It was just another great day for hashing. Thanks Cuntry Member! ON ON

Volunteer to be a hare, it's great fun! Plus the Chinese New Year of the Hare - sorry - Rabbit will start just 3 days beforehand!

Water World Run and Next Activities

The pack gathered at Undambi Rotary Park on the banks of a swollen South Pine River.
Ned Kelly, a FRB, was welcomed to the Hash. The Hares briefed us that we could expect to get our shoes wet, we needed a torch and then mumbled that they expected to be holding a wet T shirt competition at the end.

We set off and soon found ourselves travelling upstream into new territory, with plenty of evidence of where the 100 year flood mark may be.

Shattered After
A longish run it was, but no torch was needed and we headed off to the On On.

At this stage the whole Hash had become fed up with Spice Girl, well that is to say she demonstrated her one armed culinary skills, to which we were all grateful after such a splendid run. Thanks Hares.

During the Shout Up Rumourmonger was presented with a little bit more of the Borneo Bullshit that he relished dishing out himself not so long ago!

Grouse Sheila’s virgin run for Samford Inc was simply breathtaking!

Not only was it our longest and most physically challenging trot to date, it was also one of the most spectacular, taking in the beauty of the Bardon/Mount Coot-tha landscape, with a waterfall drink stop thrown in for good measure.

For one and a half hours – with just the occasional break to resuscitate Skiddy – we clambered up and down treacherous, hilly trails in the hope of eventually finding flat country. Clever checks and falsies kept the pack together until we eventually found ourselves back at the starting point, by which time we’d forgotten what day of the week it was!

Cuntry Member, Stubby and Rumourmonger were down-downed for displaying excessive testosterone by going the full distance (take that whichever way you want!) Grouse Sheila escaped an eco-vandalism charge – cutting foliage to hide a check. As an environmental scientist she’s licensed to snip dangly bits, so don’t upset her guys!

The second run back since Interhash attracted a good turnout of regulars and visitors, and we certainly ran for our curry laksa this Sunday (never enough hills at Iron Bark Gully). Stubby and Schnapps were the hares and set an interesting trail through some old and new territory. A cautionary word of warning to all Samford hashers, never trust the hare when he says, the trail will be going that way “trust me”!!!

Hashy Birthdays announcements included Topless and Rumourmonger. Thank you to Topless for the German Apple strudel in celebration of German National Day/Oktoberfest and Schnapps for the cup cakes.

Spice girl lost her reading glasses and tried to get away with wearing a t-shirt clearly marked Rumourmonger. She was duly punished as a shirt thief, and Bigfoot joined her down down for inappropriate dress. Skiddy and Sherpa added to the fine gene pool of hashers bringing Snake Charmer along, as well as Bite’n suck (not related despite choice of names). We also welcomed Kerry, a virgin Hasher. The four footed and furry additions to our crew were Miles and Zoe.

Dinner was a romantic event with candles and a fine table cloth. Next hash we will be expecting violin music and champagne, any volunteers??? Make a note in your diary for November 7th!!

After a quiet period the bulk of our members have returned from Kuching fired up with enthusiasm and ready to run. So next run is on the 3^rd October from Iron Bark Gulley, we are staying on the Winter Schedule for a little longer so it’s at 4pm or 16.00 hours for our international jet setters.

Use the Lower car park visible from the road, and park sensibly so we can get everyone in.

Highwood road at the top of the newly opened Gap Creek road. When you get to the new roundabout at the crest of GCR head west. Park on the verge along the road and meet at the turn around at the end.

8.30 for a 9am start. About 12km’s too and around Enoggera reservoir.

Steady pace and as before periodic regroups, no one left behind. Bring water, snacks to share (I like jelly snakes, but not the cheap ones) and a picnic for after, we have nothing else to do that day.

After the walk we can go down to the bottom of Gap creek to the Picnic area where Hash Beer/Wine and softies will be available.

The Glasshouse Mountains provided the scenic backdrop for the April 25 Samford Hash House Harriers Inc run.

Fittingly, being Anzac Day, our pickled (sorry seasoned) veterans, Skidmark and Sherpa, stepped into the breach as hares. Setting off from Glasshouse Mountain Holiday Village, they led us through a maze of pineapple plantations and forest trails, with the occasional swamp thrown in for good measure. Falsies, back checks and hold checks, though plentiful, failed to slow the fleet-footed FRBs as they made a bee-line for the beer.

In their haste, some runners opted for a more direct route home. But not Winnie. Refusing to deviate from the path of righteousness, she blundered on into a swamp, where she came across Pooh, courtesy of a passing horse.

Back at base camp, a lively circle and sausage sizzle and retribution for the criminal elements awaited. Gerbils led an academic discussion on ways of reducing the growing population of bufo marinus (what a great hash name!), better known as cane toads.

Together with toad whisperer, Wopa, she proceeded to catch as many of the critters as could be stuffed into a plastic bag, ready for painless despatch in her freezer. Flower, normally no shrinking violet, wilted in disgust at the spectacle. Luckily, she failed to notice some of the sausages hopping off the BBQ! Bigfoot sneaked off to watch Dr Who on the telly - leaving the remaining members of our own horny, wildlife specie – hasher vulgaris – to party on.

Holy Smoke(s), it was a good run at Whippet and Gerbils burrow on Sunday for the Samford Hash House Harriers Inc (SHHHINC). The Boxy suburbs have some good hashing Cuntry, rain had made it a bit difficult to follow the trail, we had a bit of a Runabout…… Evans-above it was tricky at times. But with Drovers Dog to sniff out the trail and Shitzu to snap at our heels we struggled on. Some Shiggy, as promised, for the hashers to Rover over (except for those that took the high road and used the bridge…SCB’s!) We did not expect to run for Miles but we did… alas Miles did not run! At least there were no Art Attack’s on the run and no Sherpa’s needed to complete this hash despite what some Rumormongers said. Freshly laundered hash gear now smelly with sweat and one set with Skidmarks, but not mine! We took our Big Foots out our shoes (or our ‘five fingers’ depending on your foot attire) no-one dressed like a Spice Girl, not even Jodie Foster although some wondered about the JM’s attire, was that shirt by George. There were plenty of Stubbies luckily they were not in ‘short’ supply, sadly no Schnapps to complete the day but the choice of homemade curries, roti and rice was very nice instead.

Thanks to Whippet and Gerbil for the run and yummy food and apologies to Just Kelly and Rini who names I could not fit in these words I stole from the hares.

Samford Hash, by coincidence, are having their usual Sunday run at 4pm in Glass House Mountain Village on Sunday 25^th. ANZAC day.

Start will be at 4pm with a traditional run with short cuts for walkers. Pay as you go bucket and snacks provided by the Hare, Skidmark, after the run.

Start point will be a short way from the Glasshouse Mountain Holiday Village resort, exact location TBA.

Holy Smoke, this should be a good run at Whippet and Gerbils burrow on Sunday for the next Samford HHH Inc (SHHINC) run. Though we are in the suburbs there is a lot of good hashing Cuntry and maybe even some Shiggy for the hashers to Rover over. We don’t expect to run for Miles so don’t worry about having an Art Attack. You will not need to be a Sherpa to complete this hash run despite what some Rumormongers might say. So clean the Skidmarks from your hash gear and put your Big Foots into your shoes and come on over on at 4pm on Sunday. You can even dress like a Spice Girl if you want. There will be some Stubbies for after the run and perhaps some Schnapps to complete the day.

The Sexy Tiger RunNAS

The Sexy Tiger Run was on! The number of red undies was not lacking for the holiday festivities celebrating Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year – Year of the Tiger….roooaor!

Rumourmungor, Bigfoot, and SpiceGirl had us trekking through dangerous waters and snake filled paths. Bigfoot crossed paths with a Yellow Bellied Black snake, but she was just asking for it because who can lead the pack in Crocs?

Highvale had a few sprinkles and plenty of mossies lingering around. A finely marked trail with numerous checkpoints kept us on the move. There was plenty of running with high knees to avoid what you might step on and to stay clear of overgrown trail. Hills and slippery creek crossings, not enough! The trail was quite an exciting excursion and had us all ready forthe circle in thirst.

There were some sexy accusations for Valentine’s Day. Schnapps, SpiceGirl, and Sherpa were called in to receive a rose for being married way too long to their wonderful, loving partners wearing red underwear. You could honestly tell who was born in the year of a Tiger as they truly match the description… Schnapps! You are mischievous.

We had a beautiful dinner made by SpiceGirl. Most of us could guess how she got her name without having to ask. Did anyone pile on the chili hot sauce? I have cleared sinuses and could not taste my spring rolls as well after that topping! The meal was well rounded and represented the Chinese New year very well since we ended in a gift, scratchies to

See what money we won! However, I do not believe anyone ate the intestines SpiceGirl nicely presented on a plate to earn another scratchie.

The Boerewors Run - Click Image For SmellAfter a week of hot weather our hares used their not insignificant powers to drop the temperature to a comfortable running temperature and then proceeded to set a run that hardly any one ran!

Don't let anyone fool you - there are hills in Dayboro! Lots of them, the pack got to know them quite well.

The (very) recent rain also raised the level of the river - we got to check that out.

It raised the level of the grass - we got to check that out - lots of wet feet!

And it provided plenty of very dead cane toads for Kelly to admire.

Some of the braver hashers braved the chilly waters of the pool before a very lively circle.

Some of the charges included Rumour monger charged for boasting - to the extent he has his middle name written on his shoes! there was a very spurious charge involving not calling on when trail was found - just as these hashers were called 'witches' the heavens opened up..... hmmm.

Some good jokes, and as can be expected, some great food.

As our most recent overseas import - Kelly was educated in more ways of the Aussie bush with lessons on snakes, frogs, spiders, etc....

Our next run is scheduled for Gung Hay Fat Choy - the year of the Tiger AND Valentines Day participants are encouraged to purchase red undies to wear to the run. This will increase your luck factor for the coming year.... hmmm. Can't promise there wont be spot checks to see if you have heeded the advice...

Kokub's Green Mango Chutney from Pakistan

Ingredients

4 green mangoes, peeled, seeded, cut into strips

3 cm piece fresh ginger, peeled, chopped

3 cloves garlic, peeled

1/2 cups white sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon dried chilli flakes

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

2 cardamom pods

4 cardamom seeds

1 cinnamon stick

5 whole cloves

1 cup white vinegar

5 black peppercorns, crushed

Method

1. Place the mango into a large pot. Crush the ginger and garlic using a mortar and pestle until they become a smooth paste and add to the mangoes. Stir in the sugar, salt, chilli flakes, cumin, cardamom pods and seeds, cinnamon stick and cloves. Cover and leave to stand at room temperature overnight.

2. The next day, place the pot over medium heat and cook, stirring occasionally for about 30 minutes or until mixture begins to thicken. Stir in the vinegar and peppercorns and cook for 1 minute more. Cool before filling into sterillised jars.

Ed's Note: Stubby says his parents used a very similar recipe to cook a Missionary.

Mitchelton Smog Turned Out to Be Holy Smoke

Most Hashers arrived on time, and those that didn't went to Woolworths and only just made the Shout Up in time.

We arrived to find that the house had been surrounded by barriers to keep the Press away, however Just Kelly (who has real Hash footwear) and those with a Hash T Shirt on were free to pass.

Holy Smoke briefed us briefly and said that two runs were set and that the FRB's would X paths with the walkers several times, and she was true to her word.

The FRB's set off at a brisk trot, till they were out of sight of the walkers and then anything could have happened!!!!!!

It turned out to be a finely crafted run, that most of us did, and we all were grateful of the Hares efforts to show us the delights of Mitchelton.

The usual Shout Up took place, including the unusual as well, and Spice Girl was presented with Skidmarks Mark 6 Flour Dispenser and we all look forward to seeing the results.

Holy Smoke provided some delicious food, so thanks from all for a great first run and the effort she put into it.

Christmas Run Report, Photos & Details of Our Next Run

Run Report with Photos.

Well done - Whippet and Gerbils chose a nice cool location at the top of Mount Glorious to have the Christmas run.

So on one of the wettest days of the year the bedraggled hare’s were found sitting in their shelter hoping that someone else would show up.

By the start of the run the rain had stopped as we were now inside the cloud and visibility was at about 25 ft however a good number attended with the usual suspected joined by the returning Lings. Holy Smoke arrived just in time to join the pack for the first back check and then we were off into the aptly named rain forest.

Good run down to the water fall and then reversed direction back home.

Some girly sillyness from Bigfoot and Spice girl regarding a couple of small leaches all of which got transferred to Rumourmonger who spent the circle searching himself for more leaches.

Wonderful Christmas spread of cold meats and salads washed down with plenty of warming Gluehwein. And a Happy Christmas to all.

Last weeks run was set by Speedy Snail and we were treated to a mixture of suburbia, parks and a bit of forest stream.

Meeting at Speedy Snails Condominium we were soon on our way towards Oakman Park, and then the dead ends and false trails started to kick in and it wasn't long before Derailed was our FRB.

Meanwhile the real FRB's were beginning to find out that despite this only being Speedy Snail's second time as a Hare, some considerable effort had gone into this cunning trail.

We all loved The Trees, 3000 year old somethings that had been fenced off to stop people para- gliding from them.

We all arrived back at the Codo to be treated to a choice of heated pools, and there followed some of the best Mexican ever - that's the food I mean.

It was good to see Derailed and VT again, and we welcomed XXXX, his daughters Light Ice and Tooheys Old and Bigfoot. Here is a photo of our new guests enjoying a Down Down.

Last Week we welcomed Cuntry Member as a new member and he was the Hare.

Setting off from his abode at a blistering pace (who can judge if this is true or false) we followed chalk and flour on a well set out route around Albany Creek, with the runners doing an extra loop through woodland, and with perfect timing we all ended up back home together.

A Circle was soon formed and ALL our Guests enjoyed a Down Down

Cuntry Member was overwhelmed by the hoard of photographers and all their flash equipment, but went on to be a great host and we all tucked into his delicious Stroganoff. His earlier Hash crime of using a Mobile on the run was forgiven as it was merely to instruct the cooks assistant to turn his hob from high to low.

Run Report 18^th Oct 2009 @ Bowman Park, Bardon

Sherpa and Skidmark briefed a dozen+ of hashoholics about their trail . We welcomed our visitors Glen and Josephine, previously hashing in Europe and Asia. Josephine requested nothing but a snake free route , everything else she can put up with……..

After some heavy rainfall in the afternoon, the once well floured trail was a bit washed out and only those with implants of hash instinct identified the blobs to follow.

This dull spotting changed only minutes into the run when we had to cross a creek and Stubby put our attention onto some “decorative” snake resting in the clear water. What a sight! (= Ruff Scaled Snake) Where was Josephine?

Good checks and “R U ? ”-calls kept us together along the route through some pretty bush, parks and along paths. What a nice flat run Sherpa and Skidmark presented to us! Unfortunately there was nothing to complain about exhausting steep climbs.

Cuntry Member stepped into the circle with new shoes! Skidmarks’ Hash Style - Tea Ceremony transformed them into some real runners.

Down downs for the hares and guests, ice cold nectars started the On On , followed by Sherpa & Skiddy’s delicious BBQ and sweet treats from Speedy Snail, our new member. Welcome!

The Red Cliffs of Redcliffe: Run Report 4 Oct 2009

Pre hash preparations included a careful look into Qld's weather website showing NO TSUNAMI warnings for the coast!

@16:59 h our hare Topless –by the way fully dressed- instructed the W’s and the R’s of her designed route:

A to A for the walkers and A to B for the FRB’s , an emergency map for those who never listen up. And off we started running on the paths along the seaside.

First check was found quickly and after the runners found the on for check no 2, they were not to be seen until their arrival at The Seasider in Margate later on.

The route took us along the beautiful coastline, a false trail down to the beach to spot the Red Cliffs shining red in the late afternoon sunlight. Redcliffe got its name from the red soil of the cliffs we learned. Back on trail we soaked in the fresh breeze after some dust-storm days in the past week. Low tide allowed us to go a short distance along the beach and another check lead us turning around towards Scarborough – back to the car park after a 1 hours brisk “walk-out” with no hills to climb or mud on our shoes. Classified as a clean, flat run!

A short drive took us to the ON ON at the Seasider and in excellent timing the runners arrived just minutes later. Reports were given of parachute sightings and sign up for some skydiving hash event in the near future …

Co-hare of the day Marianne visiting from Germany welcomed us to the Seasiders’ cosy garden for a wonderful ON ON under the full moon, supported by some candlelight; timed security lights kept us on our toes.

VIELEN DANK = A big thank you for a good run, Topless & Marianne’s delicious hash nosh with a German twist followed by Topless’ belated Birthday Mud Cake treat. All energy lost on the run was easily topped up!

The next run will be on 18^th October in Bardon, hares Sherpa and Skidmark, details to follow.

Run Report 27th September 2009 - FR Caterson Park, Mansfield

Samford Hash Inc. pounding the dirt in yet another suburb with a group of 12 runners/walkers ready and eager to start. After a last minute sign in by the guests the hares set us off with the promise of snakes, dragons, hills and water crossings.
Walkers to the left and runners taken down the hill under the road and up a small hill before finding the first check and u turning to come back past the cars…..!!! Now following the same trail as the walkers who will have had a few checks to negotiate along the route.
As promised there were water crossings, sandy trails a few sneaky checks before a pit-stop with the walkers and a welcome beverage. It was here we were able to see the rare red, yellow, blue, green jelly snake some where eaten, others tied in knots and a few even fed to the crows. The on trail took us back across the stream, up onto the road looping back to the park along the bike track. Everyone back before darkness set in for usual down downs and hash nosh supplied by our hares. Hot dogs, salad and a few more jelly snakes. Joke supplied by Gerbils something to do with a piece of string and a frayed knot!
Thanks to the hares, Gerbils and Whippet, a jolly nice run and a good feed.
Time to head home before the car park was locked for the night.

When you enter the carpark take a sharp right to the "lower" car park.

Run Report – Sunday 20^th Sept 09

Our hosts this week were Rover and Art Attack assisted by Miles, who had set a V run between the Bremer and Brisbane Rivers in Karalee.

Joining us were Georgina and Bec on Honey, Llara on her own mount and experienced Hashoholics Speed and Outhouse.

We all set off on time towards the riverside.

This was the Hares first run set in Oz, and the harriers can be lucky there were no hills in the area, be warned for future runs.

Whippet was delighted to have some FRB competition in the form of Speed and Outhouse, but the first check brought us all together again. So did the other four checks to come.

As the unfamiliar sight and smell of the sweaty Harriers sped around the semi rural area the local dog population was stirred up vocally.

Run Report - Sunday 13th September 2009

We gathered at Iron Bark Gully, for a change there were slightly more members than visitors.

As some of us hadn’t seen each other for a while, we were nattering about Noosa before we realized that it was 10 past 5, so made speedy start towards the summit in what we agreed would be a bit of a recce of a run.

By the time we reached the top, our Sherpa reminded us that, like summiting Everest, to admire the views for too long is foolhardy and a decent must be started soon.

The track chosen was new to us, but was sign posted and seemed well used.

So we set off down it expecting to exit onto the Samford Road.

As we went further down, the damage caused by the resent Storm Burst that hit the area some months back, meant that we had to deviate quite a bit due to fallen trees.

Hence, we got slower and it got darker. Who was going to question the wisdom of a 5 PM start first?

A decision was made to leave the gully and retrace our steps, and with the appearance of torches the Thirsty Hashers were feeling at home.

Pot luck awaited us, so to the night sounds of the forest.

Almost all our regular keen Hashers have chosen to go on holiday, a Hash dirty weekend, a business trip or are going to be kidnapped for Father's Day.

We have no Hares for Sunday the 06th so there won't be a run.

We'd welcome any volunteer Hares to set a run soon.

Run Report - No 8 - South Pine River Crossing

The day of the ‘Bridge to Brisbane’ saw us (also) hashing across the South Pine River and through some of Brisbane’s northern suburbs.

We met in front of ‘Durban Curry’ - only to find that they had just gone bust the previous day. But no worries there – we quickly decided to relocate for a top nosh after our walk to an Indian Curry across the road.

Muka Puki and Oils joined again and introduced us to their friend Backdoor Girl who we all welcomed in our midst.

Skidmark, Sherpa and Topless were ready to roll, Stubby eager to start - but where was Schnapps? Schnapps ?? ‘Schnapps has left me’ Stubby informed us upon request. But don’t panic - all’s good – she returned moments later with a smile – so: all is well that ends well J Schnapps and Stubby were our hares on the day and a big Thank You to both of them for being our hares two runs in a row.

We started our 8+ km run/walk shortly after 4 pm. Only Topless found it a little difficult to find her way = the arrow pointing the group in the right direction at the start. With a little help from her friends, though, pointing it out to her she finally found what she was looking for.

The run was really well marked and took us through suburban parkland as well as bushland and along and across the South Pine River. Some checks and hills kept us on our toes and made the run interesting and fun.

After 90 minutes we all gathered back at the start and the hash circle witnessed the down down’s of some overachievers: Stubby and Schnapps for setting a really long walk, and Topless for taking part in the ‘Bridge 2 Brisbane’ as well as the Hash walk. Visitor Backdoor Girl was also down downed to a new but nice song.

All in all it was a good afternoon run with a lovely evening meal to match.

Our next run will be in two weeks time with further details still to be advised since most of our potential hares are ‘on tour’ next Sunday.

Live Run Report 23 August 2009

The Finish

Run Number 7 Ironbark Gully Ferny Grove.

We arrived early and saw the live hares, Stubby and Schnapps, off on their way. We then had a steady stream of new visitors along with returnee’s Fukarwe and Runabout. Slight amusement as all the visitors assumed everyone else were members.

Run started sharp at 4.06 ish with a gentle amble up the hill, and a couple of difficult checks to slow down the FRB’s of Boobarella, Fukarwe and Skiddy followed by the long climb up to the Samford road crossing.

The kids, Oils and Spank, were doing well and pushing the front of the pack but we regrouped before crossing the road.

Note for future hares crossing from the outside of the bend affords a great view in both directions, crossing from the inside is close to suicide.

Another small climb and the trail peaked, a few more checks on the down side of the hill into the old rail route. And then a well received flat section leading back to Ferny Grove, along the stream and back under the Samford road and home. On the home trail Pubic Hare, a visitor who had been holding back, made a push for the front and FRB status.

All returned together to be welcomed back by the Hares in an hour 15.

Quick circle with the visitors Pubic hare, Sticky, Boobarella, Runabout, Fuckarwe and the Gibus family of Muka Puli, Oils, Spank and Modestly Blaze out numbering the members so the members were downed to save beer.

Then into a great and varied meal, plenty to eat and far too many cup cakes, I never realised that cup cakes go so well with beer.

A few beer, a sociable group and a fire to keep the chills of a 30deg evening at bay what more could you want.

The next run of SHHH.inc will be held at Ironbark Gully Picnic Area. Samford Road Ferny Grove. UBD 117 F 17.

We will be running on the bushland trails in the Brisbane Forest park, with TWO LIVE HARES marking the trail.

This will be our first "Pot Luck" run. This means participants who want to partake of the meal at the On-On must bring a plate of food to share in the communal meal. Visitors should therefore decide before attending if they want to stay for the meal.

There is no charge for the meal on a "pot luck" run as you bring your own food to share.

Last Run Report - No 6 - Raven St Reserve.

We welcomed several new visitors, and another new member "Topless" this week. Our Hares Whippet and Gerbils, who have twenty years international Hashing experience, set an interesting trail with the proper puzzle elements of many checks and false trails, through the Downfall Creek Reserve, with an extended runners loop into the Chermside Hills.

The Knitting Circle had the runners in stitches when they lost the thread for a while through weaving an intricate patter of conversation, plain chit chat interspersed with pearls of wisdom, instead of watching the trail markings, but soon untangled their woolly thoughts and returned to following the thread of flour again.

Hash philosopher Skidmark, observing the random meanderings of the Knitting Circle from afar, propounded a hypothesis, which shall henceforth be known as:- Skiddy's Hypothesis - The collective intelligence of a pack of Hashers is inversely proportional to the square of the number of legs!
I wonder if he is not guilty of a Hash crime for "harbouring an intellectual thought during a Hash", - if I remember the commandments correctly?

An excellent nosh of roast chicken, green salad, coleslaw and broiled potatoes filled the hungry hoards to the extent of an elephants sufficiency, in the manner to which SHHH.Inc members and visitors are accustomed. Compliments to the Hares.

This will be a "pot luck" or mystry nosh run, which means that those wishing to partake of the food at the On On should bring a dish to share in a communal meal.

This will be a live hare run. The hares will set off marking the trail shortly before 4PM and will leave instructions under the winscreen wiper of a car in the car park, together with a run sign in form, which all intending participants must sign before setting off. You may depart in persuit at 4PM sharp.

If you catch the Hares, they are at the mercy of the circle.

Next Run No 5 - Lake Manchester - It’s Ekka Day And You’ve Got Nothing To Do. August 12th 9.30 am, for a 10am start.

A bush walk beside the lake, approx 17km’s or 4 hours. Alternatively walk out and turn back when you are half tired (it’s not a flat walk). Lake Manchester is about 30 minutes or 30Km’s from Indoorroopilly, Via the Mt Crosby Road, UBD 172 Q1.

Bring water and a snack for the walk, hat and sunscreen. For after the walk bring a picnic and a beer. There are w.c. facilities at the dam park. I will be providing only an excuse to get off the sofa and markings at the junctions so we hopefully don’t lose any one. This is not a hash although hashers have been invited and Samford members are supporting the run.

Last Weks Run Report - Run 4- Walton Bridge -The Gap.
Another glorious day in paradise, another great run!
The hares did a fantastic job in laying trail so that the walkers and the front running bstds came in together!
The runners trail (a distance of 8.1km measured by the GPS) was well set with lots of loops and the hare taking advantage of every hill in the area except Mt. Cootha. Grouse Sheila led the way with Whippet and Wine Wine Wine trying to keep up.
At the back were Stubby and Skidmark who were delayed several times helping little old and young ladies across the street
The walkers were treated to some undulating hills, some parks, some streets, a babbling brook, some tricky checks – and fortunately after last weeks mountain goat impersonations by Sherpa and Skidmark ... no uphill scramble to the TV towers in view the whole way round the trail!
Back at the on on a sumptuous spread was laid on by Hot Lips with real plates no less!
Several good and bad jokes were told in the circle with Headbanger leaving before she could tell us the punch line to Mango King's joke.

Our next run will be held at Walton Bridge on Waterworks Road The Gap, starting from the parking area next to the police station adjacent to the bridge. Starts at 4PM. UBD138 B 20.

Last weeks run held on Sunday July 26 at Bowman Park Bardon was led (some flatlenders thought) by Sherpa Tensing Norgay in the ascent of Mount Everest, contrary to the unspeakable lies from the Hares that it was all to be on flat ground, and that the only hills were holographic aminations produced by the latest Hasher technology. But it was actually a different Sherpa and a lesser mountain!

Twenty two keen Hashers (and a dog on a lead) completed the course marked by the Hares Skidmark and Sherpa, through the leafy streets and parks of Bardon and then up, up Mt Everest. Skillful setting of the trail with numerous checks and false trails, in the best traditions of real HHH, slowed down the FRB's for a while, until altitude sickness began to take its toll on the flatlanders, and those who haven't done enough Hashing recently to keep up to speed.

A drinks stop at a check on the peak (not actually Everest where the TV towers are, but a lesser holographically produced little hill, K2 I think it was) thoughtfully provided by the Hares, who had earlier hauled it all up in backpacks, revived most of the pack before the descent.

A few SCB's were seen on several parts of the trail, which all know is OK, (but only if it is not detected), and although allowed to go unpunished at present, full details were recorded in our comprehensive database, and might form the basis of Hash Crimes on summons, - when the weather is warmer and more conducive to the dispensation of delayed liquid justice.

Then followed the ON ON with jokes and drinks all round, before a delicious tender steak and sausage BBQ served with coleslaw salad and rolls. Then cookies "with blocks of chocolate inside", one Hasher remarked.

Visitors were informed that it is a HASH CRIME to go away from a SHHH.Inc. Hash hungry, so they all supped splendidly until all were replete, to put it in genteel terms, so as not to offend any persons of unusually delicate sensibilities.

It was a very good turn out seeing this was only our third Hash run since SHHH.Inc was started. We were delighted to have all our visitors and hope that some will come again soon and may wish to join our growing band of real Hashers.

Run Report 19th July 2009
Event: Mulled Wine Release Vintage 2009
Hares: Stubby and Schnapps
Where: Wahminda Park, Samford Road, Ferny Grove
After promising to start on time the pack got away at 4.05, delayed by catching up with old friends and new faces.
We started down the stream then crossed up a steep slope to a check that was tough enough for the whole pack to work there way up the loose slope before being called on back. The pack was now on single track along the stream, walkers and runners mixed together before stringing out on to the road and then onto the old railway line. A couple of checks bought the packs back together and gave Whippet and Skidmark a good chance to fruitlessly climb the hills.
A mid run walker - runner split gave the runners an extra loop but both packs magically rejoined at the hill prior to crossing Samford Road and a long downhill loop back to Lomandra picnic area and under the road and home.

Pack was warmed by a supply of Gluehwein and more than ample veg and pasta bake.

A quiet circle, hares were thanked for a good run, details of next weeks run and a green award for Hot-Lips for recycling of old jokes.
Next week everyone come prepared with a new joke.

Event: Start of hashing with “Inc”

A pack of keen Hashoholics with no fear to sign in gathered around
their 4WD’s in the remote area of Upper Kedron to await the hares briefing.
The R’s and the W’s dashed into some familiar jungle of easements, houses and parks,
following the flour&chalk graffiti, the secret of the trail.
Up up, down, then left... who remembers?

Numerous checks were found with good calling and the W’s were out first – Yeah!
Refreshment of bubbles to celebrate this special run cooled us down down.
HRH M.K. & Hotlips took us to their Camp Mountain-Winter Palace to the ON ON “on fire”
-sorry, by the fire- where we spotted some more noisy bubbles, had a great choice of
'Impossible Pies' , free grog and jokes to finish.
